Think Kind Thoughts.

This morning, on our way to Jacksonville, we stopped at a local gas station to get gas. After Richard filled the car with gas and we got ready to leave the gas station, I saw that a couple of cars had parked close to us and limited my space to get out onto the street. As I slowly went between the two cars, one of the car owners stood beside his car looking at me, further limiting the area that I had to get my car to the road.

I grumbled to Richard about him and thought negatively about him--why would he stand there, he might get hit by my car, he's in my way, why doesn't he move for goodness sakes! I was not feeling kindly toward him! Once I eased past him, I had to pause again to get onto the street, and in my side view mirror saw him running up to my car window. Oh, no, he's going to ask me for money. Through my closed window he told me that my gas cap wasn't closed. A glance in the side view mirror confirmed this. Richard started to get out of the car to close it, but the man proceeded to close the gas cap and the gas door for us. I was immediately humbled by his kindness and felt bad for judging him unfairly. Of course, I thanked him! This was a good lesson for me to remember to think more kindly about others.
